The Boys

The Boys

Kyler & Kadon

I conceived the twins in Aug 2002. In the First trimester I experienced alot of lower pain, cramping and just a lot of uncomfort. I new we were pregnant, what women doesn't, but it took 3 mths and about 10 tests later to confirm. I joked with Roy about it being Twins here and there, and he always gave me glares when I did such. Well I ended up in the ER with really bad cramping shortly after my positive test. They did the normal testing, and then took me back to the Ultra sound room. Just my luck I get a new-bee fresh out of school, who literally took and hour in what seemed like fighting the computer and the picture. Her words "Goodness I keep getting two different measurements, I can not figure out why.." So a man comes over, nicely steels her spot, grazes over my tummy and says "well that's because there is two." OM Goodness, mothers instincts are always right. I return back to the room where Roy gives me a tired look and asked me what took so long. My response "hunny it takes a long time when there is two." I'm sure you can imagine the look on his face.
I eventually get to see a real Dr. who does another ultra sound and does not like what she sees. On the top of baby B's belly is a shape that looks exactly like a head of broccoli. She goes on to say that it looks like a condition called Gastroschesis, and sends me to a specialist. The thing about San Diego is they have amazing specialist who are on their game so I knew I was in good hands.
Dr. Danesman was an amazing man. Very kind and very reassuring. He to does an ultrasound and well finds more problems. I have Identical twin boys, which is one egg split. Very exciting, but that means one placenta. To women who have there placenta in the spot intended (north) its great, but for me I had a new condition, a low line placenta or Placenta Previa. That means my placenta is placed nicely above my cervix, so much for having a baby that direction. On top of that having one placenta means baby A now has Velamentous cord insertion. A problem in which his cord has inserted in the side of the placenta and not in the deep tissue part, so his cord veins are now unprotected. Basically if i contracted it would push down on his cord, cause it to burst, and end up in tragedy. Baby B is confirmed to have Gastroschesis, a defect in which his intestines developed on the outside of his body and never moved back in. Strike three to having a natural birth. So here we are at about 16 weeks and i am as high risk as it can get. Bed rest for me! I think not. As much as I appreciate Dr.s, keeping me bed rested is not doable, but I did my best.
Over the next 12 weeks I see more specialist, Dr. visits every week and try to prepare for twins at 18 years of age.  We were educated on Baby Bs condition. The best and worse case scenarios. Best being hes fine (highly unlikely) worse being he will have to have surgery where they cut and paste pieces of his intestines that got ruined while sitting in my amniotic fluid. Roy and I just held on to Faith, after all what does dwelling on it going to fix. I practically lived in the hospital, with plenty of false alarms and some contractions. They eventually put me on a med called Terbutaline, that is suppose to stop contractions. It made my heart race so bad I thought I was gonna die, so they switched me to nifedipine which was a lot nicer and sent me home.
28 weeks gestational I go in for my weekly exam and low and behold the meds didn't do their job, and I'm now going into labor. I'm admitted to the hospital on a terbutaline drip, and scheduled for an Amniocentesis. I'm gonna tell you what, everything I have been through, and I can promise I will NEVER have an Amniocentesis ever again. Talk about Pain. That's all i have to say about that.
So the results came back and it was a green light. The C-section process was very smooth considering how horrific it seems. I can remember the little old nurse whose hands were cold as ice as she held my hands to prepare me for my spinal. As soon as I was numb iIjust fell asleep. My body had gone through so much, when the pain was gone it just sorta died. I woke up 3 times, twice to screams and once to the Dr. asking me how I was.
Feb 26th 2003 we welcomed two baby boys. Kyler Bryan at 3'1 & Kadon Matthew at 4'0
Both of our Boys were very healthy, even Kadon with his Gastro. They were sent to the NICU, and I passed through to see them on my way to recovery. Kadon went straight to surgery the next morning. Being the little fighter that he is, that Dr. was able to get All of his intestines in and sown up within hours. He was in the Nicu w/ Kyler in no time. I bounced back immediately and was down there the next day nursing my angels. My Stay was 6 days, Kylers 1 month, and Kadons 2 months due to a tiny set back of his intestines getting adjusted and keeping down food. They are truly my miracle babies. They were perfect babies, perfect toddlers and perfect little boys. With a slight vision problem and glasses to correct it, you would never no those little boys were only 28 weeks when they came into this world.
Did I mention I was on TLC's maternity ward..little Stars all ready!

Lukas
Sweet Baby Lukas..Not nearly as entertaining as the twins pregnancy (lol)..I conceived little Luke in July of 05. I new right away he was a boy. He was the most perfect pregnancy. I was never sick and never really tired. He didn't seem to be a big baby, in fact I never really showed with him until the end. He was the only one of my boys who had a 3D ultrasound, talk about awesome. I fell in Love with him right away. We had Lukas Anthony on March 27th 2006 via c-section weighing 7'1. Perfect delivery and perfect baby. Things were so much more enjoyable. He was a great nurser, very quiet baby, and had these dimples to die for. He has his daddy's eyes and my daddy's nose, with a beautiful head of strawberry blond hair like his mommy. This child is destine for stardom. He can carry on a conversation better than an adult. He has the funniest personality. He Loves sports, skateboarding, and playing the Guitar. I call him my skateboarding Evangelist. Hes the child that is perfect at anything he does. There is not a person who does not Love this child.

Mikah

Oh our dear prized Piggy. So Mikah was suppose to be our girl, the whole family was ready for pink. He was a little rough of a pregnancy. I was sick on my back for 9 weeks. I could have bet $ he was the girl. Ultrasound at 20 weeks said differently. It was a sad day for me, but how do you no fall in love with that Baby waving at you from the screen. Mikah was a large child. I couldn't wear my jeans the day i got a positive test. My back felt this one. Besides all the little things he too was a good pregnancy. My Dr. thought there was no way he was as big as I told him he was. But yes being my 4th baby I think I would know.
Mikah entered the world on Sept 22nd 2008, 1 week early weighing 8'5. Thank goodness for scheduled C's, I would have had a 9lb + Kid. Mikah was a rough baby, he cried alot. Didn't do well nursing so we went to formula and that helped a little. He is a fire cracker, loves sweets, and is huge. He has been off the growth chart since hes been born.  We call him Our football player. That child is gonna make a team real happy one day. He is the "milkman" baby. If it wasn't for the blanket of strawberry hair i wouldn't buy that he is ours. Mikah is a little Lover, he loves his daddy, and is full of kisses. He is the most honest child in the world, never thinking before he speaks, I don't have to wonder where he gets that from. He loves doing anything his brothers do, and seems to favor baseball. Very very smart, and can fool anyone with that face. I cant wait to see how his personality develops.

That's a little about our boys. Feel free to email any qs and I will answer them.
